With a fresh dusting of snow on the ground, it may feel as if it is going to be a while before we see the purple stems of bluebells breaking the soil.
So what should the gardeners be doing while we sit firmly in the middle of the winter?
Research, and reading. Are you adding a pond this year? Have an oak, or willow on your list of things to get in the ground? Need to do a better job of taking care of the hummers?
There is a never-ending amount of information out there, whether it is online or through books. Scroll through Pinterest for inspiration. Or on a cold morning, curl up with a picturebook.
What am I reading? The latest from Tallamy (How Can I Help?) is always a good read. I oftentimes revisit things in my library as I wait for spring to get my own gardens moving.
And the wait will end soon enough.
